South African insurance broker finds new home in Sunderland with North East BIC

A South African insurance broker is establishing himself in the UK after opening an office in Sunderland.

Georg Janse van Rensburg moved to the UK three years ago to provide a better life for his children, away from the instability in his native country.

With over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, Georg has now set about building the UK arm of his company, Multilex Risk Consultants, which is still operating in South Africa. The company is a commercial insurance broker, providing all types of business cover.

Georg commented: “It takes around 12 months to get authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, however since we were authorised at the start of the year, the business has really taken off. I have worked in insurance most of my life but it has been a real learning curve for me understanding the market in the UK.

“My main goal is to build a solid client base here. The South African business has become well established because of the relationships I have built with my clients. I pride myself on the level of service I provide to customers, I have clients that have been with me for over 25 years.

“I would also like to increase the level of service customers get from insurance companies. It’s never a pleasure dealing with insurance companies and you need someone to act on your behalf to make sure everything that needs doing is done within the necessary timeframe.”

The company opened its first UK office at the North East BIC earlier this year.

Georg continued: “I like the people of the North and I always felt very welcome here. I’m not a city person so being based in London was never an option and I already had friends here. In Sunderland specifically I love the coast, the closer I can get to the sea the better.

“Location wise, the BIC is a very central place to be in the region and is on a main highway. The offices are very well kept and everything was just right. It was very easy to deal with the BIC and the team were very accommodating. It’s just a nice place to be, I’ve got beautiful offices overlooking the river, there’s lots of parking and it’s very accessible.”
