Hampshire housebuilding employee takes on 14,500ft sky dive in memory of mum
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), a Barratt Homes employee has taken on a 14,500ft skydive for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her mum.
Sara Wrona (23), who works at Barratt Homes’ Southampton Division, took on the fundraising sky dive on Saturday 7th October for her mum, who died of Breast Cancer in 2021. Making the toe-curling jump at Netheravon Airfield in Salisbury in aid of Macmillan, and with Barratt matching the amount Sara raised, a total of £1,050 can now be passed on to the UK leading cancer care charity.
Talking about her brave leap, Barratt Homes Technical Trainee, Sara, said: “In Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to do something special in memory of my beautiful mum, and jumping out of a plane seemed like the perfect way to raise money in her memory.
“It was a nerve-wracking morning, especially when I was waiting to do the jump, but it was an incredible experience, and I was thinking of my mum the whole time. I want to thank everyone who donated. I’m thrilled that I can help support the great work that Macmillan does, so it can continue to help families like ours.”
James Dunne, Barratt Homes Managing Director, Southampton Division, said: “Barratt Homes are committed to supporting organisations who need it in the region as well as our employees. It’s great to hear about Sara’s sky dive, and it has been a real pleasure to match her money raised.”
Sara’s mum, Ewa, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2018. After a mastectomy and many rounds of chemo and radiotherapy, Ewa’s condition improved, but after being hospitalised again in April 2021, she sadly lost her fight in August of that year at the age of 42.
Sara has been working at Barratt Homes as a Technical Trainee for two years.
Right now, more than three million people are living with cancer in the UK, and by 2030 this figure will rise to four million. Macmillan raises money to provide vital cancer services, research and campaigns to achieve better cancer care.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign observed in October. The primary objective of this month-long campaign is to raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, support those affected by the disease, and raise funds for research, prevention, and treatment.
Barratt Homes is committed to supporting organisations that improve the quality of life for people in the communities it is building.
