Shaftesbury Carnival brings in huge crowd with Dorset housebuilder’s support
Last month saw Shaftesbury high street come alive for the town’s annual carnival, and Dorset housebuilder, David Wilson Homes, was the event’s main sponsor.
Shaftesbury Carnival has been bringing colour and light to Shaftesbury since the end of the 19th century, and this year’s event was bigger and brighter than ever.
With a fun-packed week-long celebration at the end of September, culminating in high street processions and musical and dance performances, the carnival was, yet again, a fantastic occasion for all the community. More than 250 children took part in an afternoon children’s procession, and in the evening, it was the turn of the grand illuminated parade, which saw the streets filled with more than 50 entries from walkers and 100ft floats.
Leading housebuilder David Wilson Homes, which is bringing new homes to Shaftesbury at Niveus Walk, is committed to showing support for events such as this and was keen to sign up as the popular carnival’s main sponsor. Passing over a financial contribution of £1,600, the developer covered the cost of the printing and delivery of the carnival’s official programme.
Antony Streets, Shaftesbury Carnival Procession Director, said: “The carnival was a roaring success again this year, and we couldn’t have done it without David Wilson Homes. The housebuilder’s sponsorship not only provides financial support ensuring the event can take place, but it also shows its commitment to the local community. We are hugely grateful.”
Tammy Bishop, David Wilson Homes Sales Director, said: “Shaftesbury Carnival is a major event for the town and one we are proud to support. It’s events like this that bring communities together, and it was great to see the incredible amount of people taking part and coming to watch this year.”
Shaftesbury Carnival has a long-standing history in the town. Starting in 1877, the carnival continues to raise money for local charities year on year.
