Nathan Mansfield named South West's Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer
Nathan Mansfield, from Romford in Essex, has been named the South West’s most promising trainee civil engineer at this year’s Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Young Achiever Awards.
Nathan joined BAM Ritchies after graduating with a BEng in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics in July 2022, having completed his placement year at the company in 2020. His current role is Assistant Geotechnical Engineer and he is aiming to complete his Incorporated Engineer (IEng) qualification in December 2024.
In his career to date, he has worked on one of the UK’s largest earthwork stabilisation projects and undertaken a highly technical, safety critical project below the Bristol Channel linked to the Hinkley Point C power station.
He received the award for his outstanding professional manner, respectful approach and technical ability demonstrated on projects undertaken for BAM Ritchies.
Speaking at the presentation held at The Grand Hotel in Torquay, Phil Ramsden, Chair, CECA (South West) said: “Congratulations to Nathan, who has made an exceptional start to his career, demonstrating great safety leadership skills and an eagerness to learn.
“Civil engineering construction is vital to national and regional infrastructure investment in transport, energy, coastal protection and more, and central to our transition to a low carbon economy. This industry presents huge opportunities for people across a broad spectrum of roles - and it’s essential that we attract talented individuals, whether they are university, college and school leavers or people looking for a change of career, if we are to build a prosperous and sustainable future.”
The CECA South West Young Achiever Awards are presented annually in recognition of exceptional performance, with each winner receiving a trophy and cheque for £500.
