Sheffield woodland to go under the hammer

A 2.8-acre area of Sheffield woodland, popular with walkers and linking the city to the Peak District, is to go under the hammer next week with a guide price of £15,000.

The mature broadleaf woodland, in Hagg Wood off the A57 Manchester Road, was originally part of the of Burnt Stones Hall estate and is situated on the southern side of the picturesque Rivelin Valley. It will feature among over 90 lots in property auctioneer Mark Jenkinson’s online sale on 8 November.

Adrian Little from Mark Jenkinson said: “This is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire almost three acres of mature deciduous woodland, on the north-western fringes of Sheffield.

“We’ve had interest in the land from potential buyers with leisure and nature interests, however there could also be an opportunity for a business to manage and improve the woods as a carbon offsetting programme.”

The land up for auction lies between residential property in Sheffield’s Sandygate area and backs onto Coppice Road.

Next month’s Mark Jenkinson auction, which includes the woodland, has new lots added daily and will be held online on 8 November.
