Newcastle International Airport waves off first flight to popular beach destination

TUI waved off its first flight to Sal, Cape Verde, this week from Newcastle International Airport.

Yesterday marked the beginning of the global travel and leisure company’s new year-round service to this popular beach destination. Cape Verde is an African country renowned for its Caribbean characteristics, with white-sand beaches, turquoise blue ocean and brightly coloured villages.

Located off the west African coast, Sal is the most popular island in the Cape Verde archipelago, and its geographical location makes it the perfect escape for holidaymakers looking to relax in a sunnier climate 12 months of the year.

The weekly flight adds another destination onto the departure board for TUI at the North East’s largest Airport, adding to other popular direct destinations such as Orlando, Cancun, Enfidha, Antalya and Majorca.

Alongside Sal, TUI also recently commenced another brand-new route from the region. with year-round flights to Sharm El Sheikh, on Egypt’s Red Sea coastline, also taking off this month.

Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development, commented: “We are delighted that TUI have reacted to feedback from the North East travelling public and have added Sal, Cape Verde to their holiday programme from Newcastle International Airport.

“With flights and package holidays on sale until Spring 2025, TUI now serves 29 sun and city destinations from the region, and thanks to their biggest ever programme on sale, we look forward to welcoming even more passengers through our doors.”
