SMD strengthens growth plans with senior hire
Global subsea engineering and technology company, SMD, has bolstered its ambitious growth plans and invested in a new senior hire.
Digital Development Manager, Lee Hammond, joins the team at its Wallsend Headquarters, bringing with him over a decade of digital transformation experience and a keen desire to contribute to the ongoing success of the business.
Speaking on the new appointment, SMD’s Technical Director, Paul Atkinson, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Lee into our growing team. He brings with him a wealth of experience in planning and implementing cutting-edge digital solutions, which he will use to support our ambitious growth plans.”
“Lee will take ownership of how we transform some of our more traditional practices via technology - a mission we are incredibly passionate about.”
With plans to double its annual turnover within the next five years, SMD is investing heavily in technology and innovation, both within its facilities and with its products and services. It is currently on an extensive recruitment drive and has a plethora of opportunities available, particularly for software engineers and electrical technicians.
Mr Atkinson continued: “Lee will be responsible for the improvement of our existing systems, as well as the development of a transformational upgrade path which will maximise efficiency and enable us to better cater for our growing customer base and expanding service offering.”
Mr Hammond commented: “I was attracted to the company because of its clear growth mindset. It’s inspiring to be part of such an iconic local business, paving the way for subsea technology globally.
“As the demand for SMD’s pioneering services continues to grow, the role of technology is becoming increasingly crucial. By streamlining internal processes and focussing on cross-platform development, I’ll ensure its digital infrastructure is primed for continued expansion.”
