3t and Sterling upskill Omani military

Leading industrial trainer, 3t has joined forces with UK defence training specialist, Sterling Training to equip Oman’s military personnel with specialist engineering skills.

This is the second time, 3t and Sterling have teamed up to train the Omani military following the success of a previous project. In 2016, 12 engineers from Oman were trained in world-recognised welding and NDT techniques at 3t’s state-of-the-art training centre in Newcastle - this latest group of four delegates have undertaken intensive tailored six-week welding programmes with 3t incorporating training in welding Aircraft grade materials

Sterling Training is renowned in the defence sector in the Gulf region for delivering excellent service and top quality training. The company partners with 3t to deliver work due to the company’s extensive welding expertise.

3t has invested significantly in its welding training provision. As well as state-of-the-art facilities, 3t also offers witness invigilation of welding procedures and welding personnel qualification to standards such as BS EN 15614, BS EN 9606 and ASME 1X.

Emma Lacey, manager director at Sterling Training, said: “When a client is seeking specialised training that we can’t deliver in-house, we look for a commercial or military training partner. Our rigorous selection process once again found 3t to be the best provider in this instance because of its excellent trainers and top class facilities. The onsite hotel makes it all very convenient indeed, especially for our international learners.

“This is the second time we have worked with 3t on a project like this due to the exceptional level of support 3t provides. We are hoping to develop more training programmes together in the future to serve similar clients.”

The UK is a recognised global leader in engineering and the relations between Oman and Britain are strong and strategic with close military ties. Oman is keen to develop the skills of its people and is working hard to ensure jobs for all citizens, but also to reduce their traditional reliance on expatriate workers – an initiative it calls ‘Omanisation’.
