Popular County Durham jobs fair announces return date with 100 exhibitors

Around 100 exhibitors are expected to take part in a Jobs Fair at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington, on 8 February 2024.

The free event, hosted by Darlington Borough Council, coincides with National Apprenticeship Week and has opportunities for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds, including people who are seeking employment, those considering a new job and individuals close to completing their education.

Attracting both public sector organisations and private businesses from industries including healthcare, life science, construction, engineering, professional services, manufacturing, retail, transport and logistics, the jobs fair offers a one-stop-shop where attendees can find out about local opportunities and meet potential employers.

Representatives from several support organisations will be on hand throughout the day offering help, advice and guidance on getting work, benefits, transport, childcare, disability and health issues.

Specific support will be available for veterans, people who do not speak English as a first language and those who have gained qualifications in other countries. Visitors can also talk to local education and training providers who will help identify appropriate learning opportunities to help them get the job they want.

Cllr Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy, commented: “Darlington is a great town, with a thriving and diverse local economy. We are committed to generating high quality, secure, well paid employment opportunities for local people and have made significant investments to attract new and varied businesses to the town.

“In the last year unemployment has fallen and is lower than across the North East as a whole. The last census also reflected that around 38 per cent of Darlington residents had professional and associate professional and technical occupations, with nearly 30 per cent having a level 4 qualification or above.

“The jobs fair is an excellent opportunity for local people and those living in the surrounding area to meet employers and find out more about the wealth of opportunities we have available for people of all ages, interests, backgrounds and skill levels.”
