Historic inn announces reopening date after multi-million-pound refurbishment

Bookings are now open for The Inn Collection Group’s newest Lakeland refurbishment as The Ullswater Inn at Glenridding gears up to reopen, following a multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The historic property located at the heart of Glenridding village, has undergone a total transformation following a 12-month programme of work, with a new pub and additional bedrooms created as part of the renovations.

It is due to reopen from Monday February 12 and welcome guests over the course of the half term holidays and boost the capacity of visitor rooms available in the quiet village in the shadow of Helvellyn.

Collaborating with the Newcastle Studio of national architects GSSArchitecture, the full design team included Method BC, IC Planning, BXB Interior Design, ECS Consultants, Jasper Kerr, and Sweco Building Control.

Originally acquired by The Inn Collection Group in 2022, The Ullswater Inn has a heritage of more than 150 years of providing hospitality in the village, with redevelopment carefully carried out to sensitively upgrade and improve the property.

Transforming the former reception and communal areas has created a traditional style pub complete with log burning stoves, and seating to provide 254 covers, with feature windows giving views over the village and the surrounding fells.

For spring and summer days, an expansive outdoor seating area for 140 covers is adjacent to the babbling waters of Glenridding Beck. Offering a range of drinks including specialist teas and coffees, local ales and spirits from The Lakes Distillery, the inn’s food menus will also feature local flavours across breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

Alterations have also been made to the existing bedrooms, whilst the removal of a redundant spa area has created additional bed spaces, taking the total number of rooms from 36 to 57.

As part of the refurbishment, a new canopied entrance has been constructed, alongside comprehensive refurbishment to the external facades which has included sympathetic window and roof replacements and the installation of new signage to improve the inn’s overall appearance and the experience for guests.

The Inn Collection Group CEO Sean Donkin commented: “Exceptional locations are very much a group USP and The Ullswater Inn has this in spades. It is a classic Lakeland site with a strong reputation earned over the last century and a half and one that we are aiming to enhance with our careful refurbishment.”
