North Shields venue to screen free film to help cash-strapped families this upcoming half-term

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite, keeping little ones entertained can be costly, which is why a North Shields venue is showing a free film for families this upcoming half-term.

The Exchange 1856, based on Howard Street, North Shields, is screening the 2023 film ‘Trolls Band Together’ at 11am on Thursday 22nd February completely free-of-charge.

The relaxed screening is perfect for young children as the lights will remain low, the music will be lowered and children are free to move around.

Booking is essential and anyone interested should visit The Exchange 1856’s website to reserve a space.

‘Trolls Band Together’ is a U Certificate with a running time of 92 minutes. The film is still showing in many local cinemas, making this free performance even more of a special treat.

Starring Justin Timberlake and Troye Sivan, the story is the third instalment in the Trolls Franchise. Poppy discovers that Branch and his four brothers were once part of her favourite boy band. When one of his siblings, Floyd, gets kidnapped by a pair of nefarious villains, Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop culture obscurity.

Managing director at The Exchange 1856, Stuart Egan, said: “We know it can be expensive to keep children occupied during school holidays, especially if the weather is bad, so we thought a cinema experience is a great way to help local families during this time.

“We have a wonderful space here in North Shields and we want the local community to feel very much a part of it. That’s why we’re hosting this free screening and would encourage families to come along and enjoy a great film in a great venue, no purchase necessary.”

The venue is also running two family friendly live performances during half-term: The Boy and The Seahorse and The Toys are Back in Town that promise to entertain children of all ages.
