A leading name in the world of Formula 1 motor racing is returning to his Middlesbrough roots to share insight into his fast-paced career.
Former F1 race engineer Rob Smedley has 30 years of experience in the world of motor racing, having worked with multiple F1 teams including Jordan, Ferrari and Williams.
After spending time in roles as F1 consultant and director of data systems, developing and deploying data strategy for the sport, Rob went on to become the CEO and founder of motorsport engineering business, Smedley Group.
Rob was awarded an honorary Doctor of Professional Studies from Teesside University in 2009 in recognition of services to motor sport and technology.
And now Middlesbrough-born Rob is returning to Teesside University as the latest guest speaker to join our In Conversation series.
The In Conversation series has previously welcomed notable speakers from the worlds of sport, culture, and business, including rugby legend Rory Underwood MBE DL, media mogul Dominic Carter, best-selling author Adele Parks MBE, iconic car designer Marek Reichman, professional boxer Savannah Marshall. In addition, acclaimed film director, writer and producer Franc Roddam will take to the stage for In Conversation in June.
Rachael Barker, Head of Alumni Engagement and Stakeholder Development at Teesside University, said: “Rob is an incredible ambassador for our region and our University, and we’re delighted to welcome him back to the campus and his home town to share exclusive insight into his hugely successful career.
“We have really enjoyed hosting an amazing range of guest speakers, who have each enthralled audiences with stories about their career paths, and we’re delighted to welcome audiences to the latest in our In Conversation series.”
