Durham water retailer moves to new North East HQ

Durham-based water retailer Wave has moved into a new head office in the North East, downsizing in a bid to enhance its sustainability, while still focusing on growth.

Wave achieved healthy growth in 2023 and welcomed 38 new starters to its team, but as the businesses’ 324-strong workforce adopted a successful hybrid working model following the pandemic, its former head office in Pity Me became too large a space.

The team’s decision to relocate to a smaller office was driven by the desire to maximise energy efficiency and recreate its community feel with a more collaborative working space.

Wave now occupies a 3,658sq. ft. space within Salvus House in Aykley Heads, along with a second office in Peterborough.

As an environmentally conscious business, Wave supports its customers to reduce their water usage and become more sustainable, with this office move seeing it lead by example.

As part of Wave’s Social and Sustainability promise, they’ve recently published their carbon reduction road map to net zero across their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. They plan to achieve their target by 2030 while also maximising their impact by influencing businesses and industry stakeholders to support the UK’s

ambitions to decarbonise the wider economy.

Lucy Darch, Wave CEO, said: “We moved into Priory House in Pity Me when the business began almost seven years ago, and while it will always hold sentimental value, we felt that it was time for a new space that reflects our values and where we are now as a business.

“By downsizing our office, we’re able to reduce our carbon footprint while still accommodating flexible and hybrid working. Hybrid working has proven extremely successful, with our employees able to obtain a better work life balance while supporting the business to lower emissions, with people needing to commute to the office less frequently.”
