Barratt inspires next generation of workers with Portsmouth careers event partnership
On International Day of Education last month, young people in Portsmouth had the chance to discover the range of employment opportunities on offer to them in the region at an interactive careers day, and leading housebuilder, Barratt Developments, was event partner.
Get Inspired Portsmouth 2024, organised by EBP South, took place at the Guildhall on Wednesday 24th January. Hundreds of 11- to 16-year-olds from across Hampshire attended the event to learn about the huge variety of careers available to them. Connecting schoolchildren to the diverse array of businesses in the area, the event gave attendees the chance to speak to exhibiting employers and ‘have a go’ at different skills via a selection of interactive activities.
Hampshire developer, Barratt Developments, is committed to providing opportunities for young people, and teamed up with EBP South to partner the Get Inspired event. Its workers were on hand to chat to youngsters about a career in construction and the housebuilding team also brought along a reaction game for children to try out.
James Dunne, Barratt Developments Managing Director, said: “It’s extremely important that we work in tandem with the communities where we are building new homes, and by working closely with schools and careers events such as this, we can inspire the next generation of construction workers.
“EBP South’s Get Inspired events are a fantastic way to show young people the broad range of opportunities available to them. It’s been a real pleasure to offer our support for this event in Portsmouth on International Day of Education and have the chance to meet and talk to so many inspiring youngsters. It was also great seeing the children testing their reactions in our interactive game as well – they were getting quite competitive!”
Richard Kennett, CEO of EBP South, said: “We are really grateful for Barratt’s support as event partner for Get Inspired Portsmouth. It means we can continue delivering events like this, which provide fantastic interactive opportunities for hundreds of young people locally to learn more about the range of employment opportunities in our region. We look forward to our valuable partnership continuing in the future.”
EBP South runs a range of events for schools across Hampshire and the surrounding areas that inspire students through interactive activities and connecting students to businesses and the world of work.
Get Inspired events bring businesses together from all industries to inspire young people to work in their sector through hands-on interactive activities that encourage young people to engage with businesses. The events are a great way for students to learn about career options in their local areas from a diverse range of businesses.
International Day of Education celebrates the crucial role education and teachers play in our societies.
