Greaves, West & Ayre appoints new partner

One of the Northumberland’s biggest accountancy firms has appointed a new partner this week.

Billy Cleland, an associate at Berwick-Upon-Tweed-headquartered Greaves, West & Ayre, has been promoted to partner and has already started in his new role.

Billy, who joined the Walkergate-based company last year, has been working in the tax department, using more than 25 years’ of experience in tax, as well as being a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

A keen golfer, who is a member of Royal Dornoch Golf Club in the Scottish Highlands, Billy is also a mountain biker and can regularly been seen round Kielder Water on a weekend.

Billy said: “I have been welcomed so warmly by all at GWA. It is a joy and pleasure to work with such a talented team.

“I am honoured to have been invited to join the partnership so soon after joining the business last year. The firm prides itself, quite rightly, on its excellent reputation for its level of service and commitment to developing its staff, and I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued success for many years to come.”

Colin Frame, partner of GWA, added: “Throughout his career Billy has gained a wide variety of tax experience, both in transactional tax and routine compliance.

“During his time at GWA, he has been working closely with a number of partners supporting them with larger clients with more complex requirements.

“He has demonstrated he possesses a clear technical knowledge as well as a work ethic to deliver the “Quality Advice – Quality Service” that we all strive for within the practice. All of the partners are delighted to have Billy join us to take the firm forward”.
