OPUS Major Projects 'set for successful future' after contracts joy

A construction firm that saved 50 staff from redundancy is “set for a very successful future” after “hitting the ground running” with landmark schemes, bosses have said.

Newcastle-based OPUS Major Projects is targeting £10 million-plus turnover after completing a number of lucrative programmes.

The business was formed last year when founder Gavin Richardson swooped to secure the services of Integral UK staff left with uncertain futures after the company stopped tendering for main contractors across the North East and UK.

The move secured 50 jobs, including six apprentices, with OPUS Major Projects since working on schemes including a £1.7 million contract to refurbish the former 35,000sq ft Barclays wealth management EQ5 building, on Newcastle Quayside.

Its ongoing order book also features the refurbishment of a ward at North Tyneside General Hospital, on behalf of Integrated Health Partnership.

Gavin said: “OPUS Major Projects has hit the ground running, and we are proud to have safeguarded the jobs of 50 highly-skilled people working in the region.

“It also means that, from day one, OPUS Major Projects has had a fully cohesive team with a professional and strong work culture.

“It’s a workforce that knows each other and the industry inside out, and one that has experience of delivering major projects to the highest quality.”

Daniel Lowes, a director with the business, added: “The faith shown from our loyal client base has enabled us to quickly develop the business and showcase our technical capability and craftsmanship.

"The progress to date is just the start of what is set to be a very successful future for OPUS Major Projects.”
