Parcel firm DPD reveals 250-job warehouse plans
A parcel firm has unveiled plans to deliver a 250-job warehouse.
DPD has agreed a deal to move into a 63,000sq ft base at Forrest Park, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
Officials say the 25-year lease agreement will create up to 250 posts and secure a further 125 roles, adding it marks an “exciting moment for the North East”.
Building work could start early next year.
The deal follows West Midlands-based joint venture developer and investor Richardson Barberry’s securing of planning approval for a £100 million, eight-warehouse scheme at Forrest Park.
Louise Ferguson, DPD Group UK’s head of property, said: “Forrest Park is a great location for us.
“It is part of our aim to be the most sustainable delivery company in the UK, and a leader in the move to electric delivery vehicles.
“We have invested heavily in our regional network in the last ten years to meet the huge increase in demand for our services, and this new base will allow us to offer an even better service to the area, with more efficient fleet, shorter journeys and lower emissions.”
Jon Robinson, Barberry development director, echoed the positivity, revealing the agreement has spurred further interest from potential site occupiers.
He added: “This is a major pre-let to DPD, which demonstrates the quality of our proposed development at Forrest Park, its connectivity and proximity to the motorway.
“It will allow us to open up the site and create additional estate infrastructure and development plateaus.”
