Accountant scales Kilimanjaro for charity
An accountant from one of the leading chartered accountancy firms in the UK has conquered Kilimanjaro in order to raise funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Emma Skinner, partner at Haines Watts Swindon, has successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro. After a gruelling six-day trek, which saw temperatures drop to -15°C and rough terrain worsened by altitude sickness, Emma reached the summit on October 10 just in time for sunrise.
Starting from the Lemosho Gate, her trek took her through rainforests, deserts, and rocky landscapes, pushing through physical challenges alongside her group. The funds raised will support Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s operational costs of over £12,000 per day, covering their helicopter, critical care cars, and crew.
Reflecting on her achievement, Emma said: “Climbing Kilimanjaro has been a tough and humbling experience.
“I have been challenged mentally and physically and I experienced so many emotions during the trek. I am proud of the achievement.
“I am incredibly grateful for all of the support I have received. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has donated so generously.”
Wiltshire Air Ambulance, a registered charity, provides life-saving care across Wiltshire and Bath, relying entirely on donations from local communities and businesses like Haines Watts.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance fundraising manager Fraser Normington added: “We are always taken aback by the lengths some people will go to raise funds for their local air ambulance charity and Emma’s challenge is certainly one of the hardest around.
“Everyone at the charity would like to congratulate Emma on successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro and we cannot thank her enough for undertaking the challenge to support Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s lifesaving service, with the backing of the team at Haines Watts.”
Emma’s donation page remains live until 25 October. You can donate here.
