Gentoo appoints new director of asset and sustainability
Sunderland-based housing association Gentoo Group, which provides homes for more than 60,000 people, has appointed a new director of asset and sustainability.
Peter Akers, who was formally the associate director of asset, has been promoted to the role after impressing since joining Gentoo in March 2023. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked in the housing sector for over 15 years, having previously been at North Star Housing where he was head of asset and property.
In his new role, Peter will lead on Gentoo’s approach to strategic asset management, asset sustainability, investment plan delivery and ensuring all the Group’s stock has an EPC rating of C by 2030, as the company looks to reduce energy use for customers.
Peter said: “I am delighted to have been appointed in my role, leading the Group’s investment plan and continuing to develop our work surrounding energy efficiency and sustainability.
“I’m happy to be continuing to work alongside a brilliant asset and sustainability team and am committed to developing and improving our service to customers and the city of Sunderland through making the right investment decisions.”
Marc Edwards, executive director of property added: “I would like to congratulate Peter in his new role, and I am confident he will ensure Gentoo make data led investment decisions to ensure our customers continue to have safe, decent homes to live in whilst continuing to improve Gentoo’s approach to sustainability, looking to reduce energy costs for our customers and supporting Gentoo’s contribution to working towards a future net zero city in Sunderland.”
