Planner powers ahead with Isle of Man project

A North East planning specialist has secured approval for an innovative solar array project it says is set to boost renewable energy production on the Isle of Man.

Hexham-based Hedley Planning Services will lead the installation of three pole-mounted photovoltaic trackers, the first of their kind on the island.

Each tracker will contain 36 solar panels, generating enough electricity to power 25 homes annually.

The solar array, located near Ballasalla, will support a nearby data centre and the Gatekeepers Cottage, in line with the Isle of Man’s net-zero goals.

The development also includes parking for eight vehicles and will contribute to the site's ambition of producing 100 per cent renewable power.

Joe Ridgeon, director at Hedley Planning Services, who oversaw the application, said: “We are delighted to eventually secure planning permission for this exciting project and very much look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition.

“We continue to face an energy crisis in the UK, so bringing forward solar energy farms like this one can be an efficient way to generate clean energy for properties and wider local communities.”
