Yorkshire site managers earn housing ‘Oscars’

Two Redrow site managers from Yorkshire have been recognised with industry awards.

Simon Longley, from Huddersfield, and Oli Calpin, from York, both received the Seal of Excellence Award at the National Home Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards, considered the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding sector.

The awards mark a significant achievement, as only 18 site managers in the North East and Yorkshire are given the accolade.

Remarkably, this is Simon’s eighth Pride in the Job award and his second Seal of Excellence award.

He said: “This award is down to teamwork, so I’d like to thank everyone at Redrow.

“Achieving this fantastic accolade is the pinnacle of our careers to date.

"We all strive for perfection. Building at our best means our customers benefit with their new dream home.”

Simon’s award is based on his work at The Glade at Woodland Vale, in Wakefield, while Oli’s efforts at Whitehall Grange, in Leeds, earned him the accolade.

Oli added: “This isn’t an award for me, it’s for everyone. When I found out the news, I was so happy. I went around the site and thanked everyone individually.”

The judging process for these awards is highly rigorous, evaluating consistency, attention to detail, leadership, and technical expertise. The national ‘Supreme Award’ winners will be announced in January 2025.

Congratulating both winners, Steve Wood, NHBC chief executive, added: “For more than four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s purpose of raising standards in housebuilding.

“While housebuilding is a team effort, we believe the greatest influence on the quality of a finished home is the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their team.

“Redrow’s winning site managers Oli and Simon have demonstrated their dedication, passion and leadership to ensure new homes are delivered to exacting construction quality standards.”
