STACK Middlesbrough base moves closer

A 50-job leisure development has moved a step closer.

STACK has begun moving shipping containers to its Middlesbrough site.

Bosses say the 25-container venture, which will feature a number of street food outlets and bars, will open in December.

Based in an undercroft where the A66 flyover meets Exchange Square, it will also include a live entertainment plaza.

Its containers are being winched into place by The Abbey Group.

Neill Winch, STACK chief executive, said: “We are confident this will be a huge asset to Middlesbrough and add a positive and additional dimension to the local leisure scene.

“There was a lot of additional work and infrastructure to put in place, which hadn’t been originally anticipated, but we are grateful to the council and combined authority, which have carried out the works to allow us to use this site.”

The Middlesbrough site will be STACK’s third development this year, following schemes in Newcastle and Lincoln.

A further Newcastle base, at the city’s Worswick Chambers, is earmarked to open next year, with additional schemes underway in Durham, Bishop Auckland, Whitley Bay, Carlisle, Northampton, Manchester, Leeds, Wigan and Sheffield.
