Movember gets big balls boost
The Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness for men’s health has been boosted by a load of balls.
‘Balls for Balls’ is a new initiative from MatchWornShirt, the world’s largest match-worn memorabilia auction platform, in partnership with the global men’s health charity Movember.
Under the scheme, MatchWornShirt has teamed up with football clubs around the world including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain and many more to organise a series of auctions which give fans the opportunity to bid on match-used and signed balls.
Since its launch in 2003, Movember has raised nearly £600 million which has helped fund more than 1250 projects around the world, focusing on men’s mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
The charity raises funds to deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programmes that enable men to live happier, healthier and longer lives and the organisation says millions who are committed to disrupting the status quo, have joined the movement over the last 21 years.
One of the main ways to raise money each November, is for men to grow a moustache, which has proved a very popular method globally, or fundraisers can sign up for 60km walks and runs throughout the month, as well as Host a Mo-ment or Mo Your Own Way, to arrange an adventure challenge of your choosing.
The ‘Balls for Balls’ auction will give fans and collectors across the chance to own a piece of football history while also raising vital awareness and funds for Movember’s life-saving work.
Timen Zonderwijk, MatchWornShirt’s co-founder, said: “We’re very proud to partner with Movember in support of their life-saving work.
“By offering fans the chance to own and cherish these incredible squad signed balls - each with their own story and unique place in football history - we hope to not only raise vital funds for this great charity, but also to start important conversations around men’s health issues.”
The auctions started on the MatchWornShirt website and app this week and will run until November 24, with a donation from the net proceeds going directly to support Movember’s life-saving initiatives across mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
In addition to tackling key health issues faced by men, Movember is working to encourage men to stay healthy in all areas of their life, with a focus on men staying socially connected and becoming more open to discussing their health and significant moments in their lives. The charity’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
MatchWornShirt are also backing the British Legion Poppy Appeal again this year by offering match-worn shirts to supporters across the Premier League, EFL and WSL from next weekend’s matches.
Since it was founded seven years ago, MatchWornShirt has become an industry leader in offering match-worn and signed memorabilia from more than 300 global partners across football, rugby, cricket, cycling, and other sports, and raising much-needed funds across a range of causes.
