Raising a glass to adventure

For those seeking a unique gift, a limited edition of gin bottles signed by renowned British adventurer Sir David Hempleman-Adams will be auctioned this Christmas.

The Adventurers Drinks Company, founded by ocean rower Phil Kite, has crafted the exclusive Sir David Hempleman-Adams Explorers Grand Slam Gin, inspired by Sir David’s iconic achievement of scaling the highest peaks on all seven continents and trekking to both the North and South Poles.

Phil said: “Sir David is one of the world’s most inspirational adventurers and continues to explore the world from the land, sea and air.

“I have created an inspirational gin that captures the essence of his achievement by the inclusion of botanicals from all seven continents.

“The ten signed bottles will appeal to gin lovers and those interested in exploration and adventure, and acquiring a piece of history.”

This distinctive gin combines botanicals from each continent, blending ingredients including European juniper, African liquorice and Antarctic sea salt, to create an aromatic and slightly spicy profile with a hint of citrus.

Sir David added: “I am delighted to be the inspiration for Explorers Grand Slam Gin.

“My love of adventure and exploration started when I took part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and being the first to achieve the Explorers Grand Slam is something I look back on with pride.

“One of my heroes, Shackleton, took Mackinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky to bolster team spirit on his Antarctic expedition in 1907 and toasting Shackleton has become a tradition amongst those who have been to the Arctic. I am looking forward to doing the same with Explorers Grand Slam Gin.”

To mark Sir David’s milestone and support Prostate Cancer UK, ten specially signed bottles will be auctioned at the Anderson and Garland Christmas Auction on November 28-29. Each bottle, detailed with the name and date of a significant challenge - such as “Everest 1993” - comes with a presentation box and certificate of authenticity.

Sir David added: “The world and its climate have changed considerably since I started out on my first climb, and I am delighted that the first ten bottles of gin will be auctioned, helping to raise some money for Prostate Cancer UK.”

Twenty-five per cent of the auction proceeds will benefit Prostate Cancer UK, and a preview of the bottles can be viewed on the Adventurers Drinks Company blog.

For those drawn to Sir David's legacy, the gin is also available for purchase online here.
