STEM skills body receives £40,000 boost
A skills organisation has raised more than £40,000 to help youngsters access education opportunities.
The North East STEM Foundation secured the cash boost at its latest annual fundraising dinner at Dalton Old Pump House, near Seaham, east Durham.
Bosses say it will support the body’s outreach programmes that connect young people with employers and showcase career opportunities across the region’s science, technology, maths and science sectors.
They add a slice of the funding will also cover travel costs for schools attending the organisation’s events.
Dinner speakers included Tania Cooper, chair of the North East STEM Foundation and Tom Dower, principal of Newton Aycliffe-based training provider UTC South Durham.
Tania said: “The North East STEM Foundation is committed to ensuring every young person, regardless of background, can access quality STEM education.
“The funds will contribute to removing the financial obstacles that limit opportunity for our young people, play a pivotal role in supporting the next generation of STEM leaders and help businesses secure the skilled workforce needed to thrive.
"We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, the businesses who attended and all our supporters for their generosity and commitment.”
