Silverstone to lead extensive upgrades of North East schools
A major education trust in the North East has selected Silverstone Building Consultancy to upgrade and 'future-proof' facilities across its 30-school portfolio, focusing on safety, structural integrity and modernisation.
The consultancy is conducting critical reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) surveys for the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, which oversees five secondary and 25 primary schools across Durham, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Tracey Field, estate manager at Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, said: “Like many other multi-academy-trusts, our school buildings require extensive upgrades to ensure they are safe, fit for purpose and excellent learning environments.
“We have established a great relationship with the Silverstone team who play an important role in supporting our ongoing programme of planned maintenance and capital works and appreciate the expertise they bring to support us in managing our schools.”
Silverstone’s work includes targeted defect surveys, fire door replacements, roof repairs and bathroom refurbishments, partnering with contractors 186 Property Solutions and Leba Construction.
With its offices in Newcastle, Leeds and London, Silverstone brings specialist chartered building surveyor and project management expertise to the project.
Gavin Walker, senior surveyor at Silverstone Building Consultancy, added: “The upgrading works are key to helping the Trust strengthen and future-proof its portfolio.
“And, what’s great about these projects, is you get to see the immediate positive impact they have on teachers and pupils.”
