Alliance powers offshore wind talent pipeline
A major collaboration has been formed to drive clean energy skills development and support the growing offshore wind sector.
The Energy Central Campus (ECC) has announced Equinor as its new Platinum Business Sponsor.
Equinor, a key developer of the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, will work with the ECC to create a robust talent pipeline tailored to the needs of the expanding offshore wind industry.
This partnership, alongside recent support from RWE, strengthens ECC’s mission to inspire, train, and deliver pathways to employment in the clean energy sector. By fostering local talent and equipping students with advanced skills, the ECC, a collaboration between the Port of Blyth, Northumberland County Council and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, aims to bolster sustainable growth and economic benefits across the North East.
Martin Lawlor OBE, chair of ECC and chief executive at Port of Blyth, said: “I am delighted to welcome Equinor as a Platinum Business Sponsor for ECC.
“As a world-leading offshore operator and an international pioneer in renewables and low-carbon solutions, Equinor’s expertise will be invaluable in shaping our learner experience and training programmes.”
Tom Nightingale, Equinor UK Projects supply chain leader, added: “We are excited to partner with Energy Central Campus to support the development of the next generation of offshore wind talent.
“It is estimated that over 100,000 will be employed in the sector by 2030 - by working together, we can ensure that the UK has the skilled workforce needed to deliver on its ambitious renewable energy targets.”
