Robotics firm Wootzano eyes global growth
A robotics innovator is poised to transform the fresh produce packing industry with groundbreaking technology and ambitious international expansion.
Wootzano, based in Newcastle, has announced its plans to extend its global reach, leveraging its success in the UK and recent expansion into the United States. To fuel this growth, the company has launched a Crowdcube crowdfunding campaign, inviting investors to support its mission to revolutionise fresh produce handling.
Founded in 2019 by Dr Atif Syed, Wootzano is renowned for its flagship robot, Avarai, which uses patented “embedded electronic skin” technology and AI-powered vision systems to handle delicate produce without damage.
This innovation has gained traction in the United States, with Avarai recently deployed in California’s Central Valley, the USA’s largest grape-producing region.
Dr Syed said: “Starting from Central Valley, we are aiming to expand to other states in the US. But as Central Valley is the food basket of the US, having Avarai in this unique area is very fitting.
“We have exceptional demand for Avarai in the region, and we are expecting a significant increase in sales.”
The company’s automation solutions reduce labour requirements by up to 60 per cent on packing lines and deliver cost savings of 30 per cent, addressing critical challenges in the food supply chain. With over 30 patents and international expansion underway, Wootzano, which was recognised as ‘North East Business of the Year’ at the 2024 North East Business Awards, continues to lead the industry in innovative automation.
With plans to enhance its technology and enter new markets, Wootzano’s crowdfunding initiative aims to accelerate its journey as a leader in robotics and automation. To find out more information and to support Wootzano, see here.
