Family jewellers shine bright in Helmsley
A family-run jewellery business with deep Yorkshire roots has opened its eighth store, returning to the historic market town of Helmsley with a stunning new showroom.
Bradleys Jewellers, established in 1970 by husband-and-wife Peter and Janet Bradley, has grown from its antique exports’ origins into a celebrated retailer of fine jewellery and luxury watches.
The new store, located in the former Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop on Bridge Street, adds to the company’s portfolio, which includes locations in York, Harrogate, Northallerton, Wetherby and Scarborough.
Helmsley holds special significance for the Bradley family, whose ancestors farmed in the area. The 2000 sq ft store showcases leading brands including Fope, Montblanc and Marco Bicego, alongside an extensive new and pre-owned watch collection, bespoke wedding and engagement services, and one of the UK’s largest collections of Danish brand Georg Jensen outside of London.
The second generation of the Bradley family plays a major role in driving the business forward. Eldest son Peter Jnr oversees and supervises the stores, while youngest son Michael, a GIA registered diamond appraiser, designs exclusive fine jewellery collections. Meanwhile, daughter Kay, an award-winning jeweller, runs her own store, Bradleys Ltd, in York.
Peter Jnr said: “We are returning to our roots with this new store, an ideal location from which to continue the growth of our business.
“We have committed a huge investment to the re-development of this fine building, maintaining the heritage features whilst giving it a facelift for the future.
Helmsley is a vibrant and commercially active town, and we are delighted to be investing in its future as well as that of our business.”
The grand opening, officiated by Peter Wright of Channel 5 documentary series The Yorkshire Vet, welcomed visitors and their pets while raising funds for the Herriot Hospice. The expansion marks a year of rapid growth for Bradleys, with three new store openings ahead of their 55th anniversary in 2025.
Councillors Val Arnold and Carol Swift, chairman and vice-chairman of Helmsley Town Council, respectively, were on hand to meet visitors to the store.
Councillor Arnold added: “We are absolutely delighted that Bradleys have chosen Helmsley as the location for their beautiful new store.
“They have done a superb job renovating a prime location in the town centre and we are so pleased to have them here.”
