Tech scholarships to inspire North East innovation
A local tech company is launching scholarships at Northumbria University to empower the next generation of innovators and support the region’s growth as a technology leader.
Wubbleyou has announced three scholarships aimed at fostering bold thinking and advancing tech education. Founded in 2009 by Northumbria University graduate Mark Renney, the company has grown into a trusted partner for scaling businesses and public sector organisations, delivering over 150 tech products to market.
Mark said: "Imagine a region where businesses aren’t just keeping up but leading the way globally.
"The North East is full of clever people doing clever things, businesses solving hard problems but on a small scale.
“Technology makes it possible to export knowledge and expertise at scale. To export knowledge and expertise at scale, you need to bake it into tech products. To do that, we need ambitious, skilled individuals ready to drive change.”
These scholarships reflect Wubbleyou’s mission to give back to the community that supported its journey and inspire students to tackle challenges in a rapidly evolving industry.
The initiative builds on Wubbleyou’s longstanding collaboration with Northumbria University in areas such as AI and innovation. It also aligns with the company’s commitment to driving economic progress in the North East through education and entrepreneurship.
By investing in future talent, Wubbleyou hopes to strengthen the region’s reputation as a tech powerhouse, ensuring local businesses can adapt to and thrive in a fast-paced digital landscape.
Mark added: "Tech is disrupting every industry.
"If businesses don’t innovate, they will fall behind. Falling behind isn’t a quick death, it’s a long, slow battle of attrition until it’s too hard to continue.
“It’s a massive tragedy to see industry leaders build businesses for years, just to see it slip away through lack of innovation.”
