Waverley Academy expansion builds futures
A significant school expansion is set to boost educational facilities and community resources in Rotherham, supporting “children and families for years to come”.
Waverley Junior Academy, in partnership with O&P Construction, is undergoing a £2 million expansion to add six classrooms, two libraries, a nursery and other facilities, accommodating more than 200 additional students.
The project, set to complete in July 2025, will address increased demand for placements and support a three-class intake starting with Foundation Stage 2, beginning in September 2025.
Last month, students from the academy’s school council were given the opportunity to tour the construction site, gaining an insight into the project’s environmental and social benefits.
Rachel Bolton, principal at Waverley Junior Academy, said: “We are looking forward to becoming a three-form entry academy and to welcoming lots of new pupils and families into our fantastic school.
“It has been great to work with O&P on ensuring the pupils are involved in this process and they are all enjoying seeing the building work take place.
“The school council were excited to take part in the tour and are now planning an assembly to share their new knowledge with their peers.”
The development includes several sustainability-focused features including bike shelters and EV charging stations, as well as enhanced sports areas that will be available for community use.
John Weldon, site manager at O&P Construction, added: “It’s an honour to work on a project in my hometown and to see the future of this community growing.
“Through our work here, we’re not only building educational facilities but creating a foundation that will serve Waverley’s children and families for years to come.”
O&P Construction is also investing in the local economy, contracting £500,000 to local tradespeople and providing work experience opportunities to students.
