Footballer-backed group reveals Cornwall park goal

A consortium featuring a former Leeds United footballer is targeting new goals after expanding into Cornwall.

The venture, led by CurveBlock and ex-Premier League defender Dominic Matteo, has bought the Valleybrook Holidays site at Peakswater, near Looe.

Backed by investor Paul Massey, the Matteo Curveblock partnership plans to redevelop the site into a £9 million energy-efficient holiday homes park.

The project, which will be operated by Ohana Mua Holidays once complete, will feature 24 energy-positive lodges, including the refurbishment of ten existing properties, with construction led by Northallerton-based Rasico.

The redevelopment is the first step in Ohana Mua Holidays’ vision to revolutionise UK staycations with AI-optimised, energy-positive parks connected by Web3 and blockchain technology.

The company aims to expand rapidly by acquiring additional parks, creating a proof of concept at Peakswater and building a strong executive team.

Paul, who is also Ohana Mua Holidays chief executive, said: “This is an important first deal for us as we look to grow our partnership and develop sites across the country.

“The appetite for sustainable developments means there is an opportunity to be a leader in this sector as well as creating great places where people want to visit and stay.”

CurveBlock, founded in 2018, focuses on financial inclusion in real estate investments and is working with regulators to develop innovative consumer investment opportunities through the Financial Conduct Authority’s Digital Security Sandbox.

Matthew Couch, CurveBlock managing director, said: “The site is quite unusual for a holiday site in the UK in that it already has extant planning permission and permission for 12 months’ occupancy rights.

“The site can be delivered in full now that Paul has backed the land acquisition, and we will be moving forward with the scheme.

“We are also looking at the bigger picture as we see this opening up opportunities for more of these types of ventures in the future."

Ex-Liverpool defender Dominic added: “I’m really excited about the potential for the Peakswater site and the opportunities in the pipeline to take Curveblock’s approach and for this team to deliver something special.”
