Battery manufacturer achieves safety milestone

A County Durham-based battery pack manufacturer has achieved a significant safety accreditation, strengthening its commitment to health and safety while supporting its ambitious growth plans.

Alexander Battery Technologies (ABT), headquartered in Peterlee, has earned ISO 45001 certification, a globally recognised standard, reflecting the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality solutions across industries such as medical devices, robotics, eVTOL and industrial power tools.

Bosses at the plant, which has delivered more than 15 million battery products worldwide and scaled its operations by nearly 300 per cent during the pandemic, say the accreditation not only demonstrates the company’s “commitment to a safe, supportive workforce” as a “forward-thinking manufacturer”, but also leaves it well-positioned to “scale and innovate”.

Mark Rutherford, chief executive officer at ABT, said: “This certification is a key milestone for our business. 

“It not only demonstrates our commitment to a safe, supportive workplace for our team but also positions us to meet the growing demands of our customers. 

“Safety and quality are at the heart of what we do, and this investment strengthens our capability to scale and innovate in line with future opportunities.”

ABT is now targeting £20 million in revenue by 2026, with plans to reach £30 million by 2028 through strategic investments and long-term projects.
