Hull retirement scheme revamp completed

A Hull-based retirement living scheme has unveiled a revamped look just in time for Christmas following a major refurbishment project.

Greenfield, managed by registered social housing provider Riverside, underwent a £900,000 upgrade delivered by Esh Construction as part of a national investment programme into retirement living accommodation.

The project included significant upgrades to communal areas, including new flooring, redecoration and improved mechanical and electrical systems. A new conservatory and an internal storage space for residents’ mobility scooters were also added, enhancing accessibility and convenience, providing, according to resident Geoff Howlett, “a brand new, modern living environment that we can be proud of”.

Further works involved replacing fire doors, upgrading the fire alarm system and improving the external fencing, footpaths and car park.

To celebrate the project’s completion, a festive event was held for residents, with representatives from Esh Construction, Riverside and Storm Tempest in attendance.

As part of the festivities, Esh, with the support of IT firm TIEEVA, donated 12 tablets to residents, enabling them to connect with family and friends online.

Julie Aryiku, Riverside’s retirement living coordinator at Greenfield, said: “Now the work has been completed, the scheme is so much brighter and more aesthetically pleasing.

“Having an internal scooter room has made it so much easier for tenants with mobility difficulties to be more independent.

“The tenants are enjoying the refurbishment and look forward to meeting up in the communal lounge for events and activities.”

Simon Scott, construction manager at Esh Construction, said: “Carrying out works like these within an occupied building can naturally cause some disruption, and we are thankful to the residents and staff at Greenfield for their patience and cooperation during this time.

“Julie Aryiku went above and beyond to assist the team, and we developed a key relationship with her to facilitate the needs of the project.

“We are proud to collaborate with Riverside to enhance and secure the future of vital social housing developments."
