Plans submitted for DurhamGate office
Plans for a new office development at DurhamGate, five miles south of Durham City, have been submitted to Durham County Council, promising to boost local employment opportunities.
Proposed by family-owned property development specialist Arlington Real Estate, the two-storey office building is designed to complement DurhamGate’s growing reputation as a vibrant hub for work, leisure and living.
The 576sq m building will offer up to four office suites, electric vehicle parking and landscaped surroundings, with the potential to create more than 60 jobs.
Dean Cook, managing director of Arlington Real Estate, said: “I feel there is a market need for small, high quality, sustainable office schemes, which we can support with this proposed development.
“The lack of new office developments and the increase in hybrid working over having staff remote is fuelling the need for this type of development.
“This development can offer business suites from 120 square metres up to 576 square metres, which we feel is where the commercial business park requirement is at currently.”
Located within the 85-acre DurhamGate North business park, the proposed scheme follows major developments at the park including the headquarters for Learning Curve Group and the recently opened Durham Constabulary Investigative Hub. These initiatives have transformed long-disused land into a thriving business community, creating hundreds of jobs.
DurhamGate also features 650 homes and is home to a range of businesses, including Livin Housing, Breedon Group and Stanley Black & Decker.
