College opens £5.4 million inclusive learning hub
A £5.4 million centre designed to enhance opportunities for students with learning difficulties and disabilities is now complete at Nottingham College’s Basford campus.
The Gateway, set to welcome students in February, features 13 classrooms, a teaching kitchen and modern dining facilities.
Bosses say it is “an exceptional facility” where students will “truly thrive”.
Developed by Midlands contractor G F Tomlinson, which previously delivered the Construction Skills Centre at the campus, The Gateway supports the college’s mission to create “inspiring and inclusive” learning environments and aligns with its goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.
It features solar panels, air source heat pumps and advanced plumbing to reduce water use.
Carl Ara, assistant principal – Basford, said: “We are delighted with the new facilities at The Gateway; a dedicated space designed to support our students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
“This exceptional facility includes a wonderful outdoor sensory garden for students to enjoy, offering a calming and engaging environment.
“The interior spaces are currently being designed, and we are thrilled about the creative and functional features being incorporated.
“The Gateway will be an inspiring, inclusive space where our supported learning students can truly thrive and reach their full potential.”
Adrian Grocock, group managing director of GF Tomlinson, added: “Building on our extensive experience within the education sector, we’re pleased to have completed two pivotal educational schemes for Nottingham College.
“The Gateway will provide much-needed facilities to support the learning and development of students at the Basford campus, and alongside the Construction Skills Centre, we’re delighted to have played a critical role in bringing these landmark buildings to fruition.”
