Clegg Construction wins primary school contract
A contractor has bolstered its order book with an education sector deal.
Clegg Construction is working on a primary school near Burton upon Trent.
Known as Drakelow Primary School, the 420-pupil scheme will sit within a 2200-home Countryside Partnerships estate on the former Drakelow power station site.
It will include a 3G sports pitch, habitat area and 26-place nursery.
Construction of the school, designed by consultancy ONE Creative Environments, is earmarked for completion by the end of the year.
Michael Sims, Clegg Construction managing director, said: “We are very pleased to have started on site to deliver this new primary school.
“Drakelow Primary School is a welcome addition to our strong portfolio of design and build schemes delivered across the education sector, and we are delighted to be part of the team appointed to create this important addition to the local community.”
The project comes after Nottingham and Cambridge-based Clegg Construction completed a £13 million expansion at Carlton le Willows Academy in Gedling, Nottingham, while the firm is also delivering the £13.5 million Centre for Green Technology at Peterborough College.
Michael Moore, Countryside Partnerships’ operations director, said: “The new building will be a valuable addition to the Drakelow development, providing a modern, sustainable and attractive environment in which students can learn and thrive.”
Becki Smith, ONE Creative Environments’ associate director – architect and education lead, added: “Working closely with the Academy Trust, South Derbyshire District Council, Clegg Construction and Countryside Partnerships, we have designed the school to maximise the potential of the indoor and outdoor spaces to support a range of teaching opportunities.”
