Funding boost for Dyneval’s fertility technology

An Edinburgh-based fertility technology company has secured over £500,000 in funding to advance its “game changing” semen analysis technology.

Dyneval will use the £515,772 raised, including funding from angel investment connector Lifted Ventures, along with £85,000 in grant funding from Scottish Enterprise, to develop a high-throughput version of the Dynescan, its flagship product which can analyse four samples in parallel.

The Dynescan, the first analyser to measure semen quality over time in conditions mimicking the reproductive tract, has already gained traction in veterinary applications across 11 countries since launching in 2022. Clients include dairy genetics companies, farm veterinarians, bovine IVF laboratories and a multinational dairy company.

With male fertility rates declining globally by 62 per cent over the past 50 years, Dyneval’s technology offers precise, user-independent data correlated directly with fertility outcomes.

Trials conducted in the UK and Argentina have demonstrated conception rates up to 10 per cent higher when semen motility exceeds two hours, exemplifying Dyneval’s “transformative potential”.

The funding marks a significant step in expanding Dyneval’s reach and capabilities, enhancing fertility analysis efficiency for veterinary and potential human applications.

Dr Tiffany Wood, chief executive officer of Dyneval, said: “This funding represents a pivotal moment for Dyneval.

“By expanding the capabilities of the Dynescan, we’re enabling experts to gain precise insights that improve reproductive outcomes for livestock, with transformative potential for human fertility research.”

Jordan Dargue, co-founder of Leeds-based Lifted Ventures, added: “Dyneval is addressing a significant gap in fertility technology.

“The Dynescan’s ability to measure semen quality over time in real-world conditions is a game-changer, particularly as it directly correlates with improved conception rates.

“We are proud to back and support talented female founders like Dr Tiffany Wood, whose vision and leadership are paving the way for innovation in sectors that directly impact global food security and human health.

“This investment will help scale their innovation and enhance their impact across the agricultural and human health sectors.”
