Gentoo raises more than £10,000 for local charity
A Sunderland-based housing association has raised more than £10,000 to support a local children’s charity.
Gentoo staff selected Love, Amelia as their corporate charity for 2024, taking part in events including BBQs, raffles, sponsored runs and a popular monthly payroll deduction scheme, raising £10,928.
Employees also volunteered their time, packing donations at the charity’s warehouse.
Alongside fundraising, Gentoo supported donation drives, contributing 2000 back-to-school kits, 250 Christmas presents and a Mother’s Day collection, helping provide essential items and some joy for families in need across the region.
Louise Bassett, Gentoo chief executive, said: “Child poverty is a significant issue in our region and Love, Amelia are doing amazing work to support families experiencing hardship.
“It’s been a pleasure to get to know Love, Amelia over the past year, learn more about their vital work in Sunderland and build a strong relationship so we can continue to work together to help our communities thrive.
“The generosity from our colleagues towards our chosen charities never fails to impress me, and I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work to raise money for such an amazing charity.”
Steph Capewell, Love, Amelia chief executive, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Gentoo for choosing Love, Amelia as their corporate charity in 2024 and for their outstanding support throughout the year.
“From their colleagues to their partners, they have fully embraced our charity, showing commitment through fundraising, volunteering, and supporting our projects.
“Their efforts have raised an amazing £10,928, which has made a very real and significant difference.
“Many of the families we support live in Gentoo properties, making this partnership especially meaningful as we work together to address the challenges in our community.
“This collaboration has created a positive impact, and we are truly thankful for everything Gentoo has done to help us support children and families experiencing hardship.”
