Carruthers & Kent toasts national recognition
A North East wine merchant has earned national recognition, climbing the ranks of the Harpers 50 Best Indies 2025 annual list.
Carruthers & Kent, a specialist wine and bottle shop, deli and events space in Gosforth, Newcastle, has secured 21st place on the prestigious list, which ranks the best of the approximately 1200 independent wine merchants operating across the country.
Founded 15 years ago by Claire Carruthers and Mo O’Toole, Carruthers & Kent has built a strong reputation for its curated wine and cheese selection, tutored tastings and unique revolving wine-by-the-glass list.
The business, which houses over 500 artisan wines as well as a counter full of cheeses and charcuterie, is the only North East wine merchant to make the list, having climbed steadily in recent years.
It now sits alongside some of the most respected names in the industry, including Berry Bros. & Rudd, Adnams and Hedonism.
A delighted Mo, said: “It’s a great honour to receive this recognition of our work, and we are so grateful to our staff and customers who are on this journey with us.”
The recognition adds to a string of national accolades, further solidifying the company’s role in putting the North East’s emerging wine industry on the map.
