Kammy kicks off Teesside counselling hub
A new counselling service is now available at Teesside Park.
Inspiration Therapies aims to reduce waiting times for mental health and wellbeing support, offering counselling for young people and adults.
Sessions are available by appointment, with initial assessments guiding the treatment path.
The service has also partnered with Open Arms Teesside, a charity offering free counselling and practical support to families in deprived areas, including access to clothing and food parcels via local schools.
More than 30 community members came together to prepare the new counselling facility, painting murals, donating carpets, furniture and toys, while offering their time and support.
Volunteers and supporters were invited to the official opening, which was conducted by former Middlesbrough FC footballer and sports pundit Chris Kamara, who has been vocal in recent years on his own mental health struggles and living with the speech condition apraxia.
He said: “The partnership with Open Arms Teesside comes at a time when many individuals across Teesside are seeking support.
“The charity will undoubtedly serve as a beacon of hope and care for those navigating through challenging periods in their lives.”
The facility has been provided by British Land through its affordable spaces’ initiative, which supports local organisations, charities and social enterprises with reduced-cost premises.
Julie McCluskey, founder and one of four therapists at Inspiration Therapies, added: “Our aim is to provide a safe and nurturing space to help children and families work through their difficulties, providing support to process current and past trauma and help them learn tools and coping strategies to manage the here and now more efficiently.”
