Authority launches plan to transform city centre
A local authority has launched a project aimed at revitalising a city centre.
Hull City Council has unveiled The Hull City Centre Vision to transform the East Yorkshire venue’s commercial and residential offer.
Officials say the move will help shape a blueprint that will create “a more family-friendly, sustainable and prosperous city centre”.
And residents are being asked to play their part during a six-week consultation programme.
Led by urban design operator Planit, officials say the venture will identify development plots, highlight measures to deliver economic growth and job creation, and seek ways to drive fresh investment into the city.
They say it will also focus on house building, assess moves to make the city more “climate-conscious” and look to enhance outdoor public spaces.
The endeavour will inform Hull’s Local Plan, which will guide future development proposals and is set to be updated later this year.
Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for regeneration and housing at Hull City Council, said: “We're excited by this new project as we look to create a city centre that reflects the long-term needs and aspirations of our residents and businesses.
“We’re looking forward to listening to people’s views.”
Andy Roberts, director at Planit, which has offices in Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester, added: “We are proud to be leading this hugely important work for the city of Hull.
“We want to celebrate Hull’s culture and heritage while creating a city centre that residents and businesses can take pride in.”
In-person public consultation events will take place at Princes Quay shopping centre on Saturday, February 8, from 10am until 4pm, and between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday, February 11.
A final session is planned for Wednesday, February 12, between 1pm and 4pm.
