Tech innovator shines with national award
A North East tech entrepreneur has been recognised for her groundbreaking work in care technology.
Tallie Bush, chief operating officer at Newcastle-based Circadacare, has won the Innovate UK ‘Women in Innovation Award 2025’, which includes a £75,000 grant and business support to further develop pioneering solutions for independent living.
Circadacare initially launched in 2020 with circadian lighting for care homes, helping regulate sleep and reduce falls.
The company has since evolved its offering into AI-powered health monitoring technology designed to support older adults at home.
Tallie said: “This recognition is incredibly validating - not just for me, but for our entire team.
“It highlights the importance of what we’re doing and how our innovations can positively impact lives.
“More than just a personal achievement, this award fuels our ability to continue developing cutting-edge solutions that make independent living safer and more accessible.
“The business world has grown up around male innovators.
“Women can often communicate and think differently, and we shouldn’t be afraid to bring our unique perspectives into innovation.
“This award, and the wider support networks available, are key to ensuring more women can lead groundbreaking companies in the future.”
The award will help accelerate the development of Circadacare’s smart sensors, integrating environmental adaptation and data analytics into a discreet system.
The firm’s continued partnership with Newcastle’s Internet of Caring Things® (IoCT™) will also drive new research projects, helping to refine its innovative care solutions for individuals, providers, and local authorities.
Jennine Jonczyk, programme lead at IoCT™, added: “We are incredibly proud to see Tallie receive this well-deserved recognition.
“Circadacare’s technology has the potential to transform care environments, and IoCT™ has been privileged to support their journey from concept to commercialisation.
“This award reflects the impact that women-led innovation is having in the UK, and we are excited to see what’s next for Circadacare.”
Tallie, along with Sunderland entrepreneur Victoria Smith, founder of Gig Lab and finance director at Ghostwriter Consultancy & Events, were two of 50 trailblazing women selected from 1452 applicants in Innovate UK’s ‘Women in Innovation Award’ competition, which awards a total of £3.75 million in funding.
