Tyneside Cinema and MOBO hit the right note
A new creative partnership between Tyneside Cinema and MOBO Fringe will aim to showcase “the North East’s incredible potential” and “inspire the next generation of filmmakers” with a dynamic creative workshop series.
Coinciding with the MOBO Awards’ first-ever event in Newcastle on February 18, the five-week programme will see young people in schools and youth groups produce music videos and behind-the-scenes documentaries, with the projects premiering at Tyneside Cinema’s Beyond the Screen event on February 15.
The initiative, supported by Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, the North East Combined Authority and the Sir James Knott Trust, brings together a team of local filmmakers, choreographers and designers, with support from organisations including GLOW Newcastle and Northern Roots.
Nic Greenan, chief executive at Tyneside Cinema, said: “As we step into 2025, we remain committed to empowering young talent across the region.
“Partnering with MOBO Fringe to create Beyond the Screen provides invaluable opportunities for the next generation of creatives, showcasing the North East’s incredible potential and driving the future of content creation.”
As part of the MOBO Fringe Week, Tyneside Cinema will also screen Original Genius: A Celebration of Black Musicians on Film, a curated selection of films celebrating Black musicians, reinforcing its mission to celebrate diverse voices through film.
