Wander Films ‘stoked’ with RTS nomination
A North East production company has been shortlisted for a Royal Television Society (RTS) Award.
Middlesbrough-based Wander Films’ debut BBC documentary, The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge, has been nominated in the RTS North East and The Borders Awards, which will take place on February 15 at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead.
The documentary, led by executive producers Chloë Clover and Lou Tonner, follows free solo climbers Anna and Mat on a daring 100-mile expedition across the Lake District, capturing breathtaking landscapes and the mental and physical resilience required for the challenge.
Part of the BBC’s Our Lives series, the film received critical acclaim for its “fresh approach and storytelling excellence”, and was named ‘Pick of the Week’ by several major publications.
Chloë said: “Filming The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge was an incredible adventure on and off screen.
“The chance to capture Anna and Mat’s story in such a breathtaking landscape was really special.
“Their determination and love for their unique life is truly inspiring, and we’re stoked their story is being recognised by the RTS.”
Lou added: “This documentary represents everything we stand for: bold, impactful storytelling that showcases extraordinary lives.
“Being a finalist for an RTS Award is an absolute dream come true for the whole team and we’re excited to celebrate with everyone on the night.”
The RTS nod marks a significant milestone for Wander Films, which was also selected for the £1.5 million BBC Small Indie Fund in 2024, further cementing its reputation as a rising force in bold and innovative storytelling.
Diana Hare, BBC England TV commissioner, added: “The Our Lives series continues to highlight some of the UK’s most compelling human stories.
“Wander Films’ contribution this year exemplifies their fresh approach and storytelling excellence.”
