Bright future for Throckley Community Hall
A Newcastle community hall is set to benefit from energy-efficient improvements following funding from a North East employer.
Throckley Community Hall has installed a new LED lighting system in its main room, replacing outdated strip lights with the help of a £1,897 grant from the Banks Group.
The upgrade, carried out by local contractor Switch Electrical & Mechanical Services, will reduce energy costs and environmental impact.
The volunteer-run hall, which hosts a wide range of different groups and functions and welcomes over 500 visitors weekly, including its popular twice-weekly bingo sessions, hopes the improvements will attract more community events.
Michelle Mitchell, office manager at Throckley Community Hall, said: “The difference that the new lighting has made is immense and we’re thrilled with how much brighter our main hall now is.
“The feedback we’ve had from visitors has been fantastic, especially from some of our older bingo players who say they can now see their cards properly!
“While we’re always very busy, we’d love to see even more people choosing to hold their family functions and group activities with us, and we think the improved lighting is going to play a big part in making this happen.
“We’d started to do our own fundraising to bring in the money for this project, and getting Banks’ generous support has allowed us to make this change far more quickly than we otherwise could have.”
The funding was provided through the Banks Group’s community fund, managed by Point North.
Jamilah Hassan, community relations manager at the Banks Group, added: "Throckley Community Hall plays an important role in the lives of hundreds of local people, and we’re really pleased to be able to hear just how much of a difference the new lights are making to everyone’s enjoyment of being there.”
