Operator expands with WF Education Group takeover

A local authority-owned trading organisation has expanded with a takeover.

Commercial Services Group has bought WF Education Group and its subsidiary brands.

Officials say the move will “significantly increase its ability to meet the evolving needs of schools and public and university libraries”.

The deal includes sports equipment and resource supplier Maudesport and science equipment provider Timstar.

It also adds design and technology equipment supplier TSL and library product supplier Gresswell to Commercial Services Group’s portfolio.

Matt Johnson, chief executive of Commercial Services Group, which initially began as the supplies division of Kent County Council and now directs all profits to the authority, said: “This marks a significant step in our journey towards becoming the leading provider of education products and services to schools.

“We are committed to shaping the future of education by offering the highest-quality products to foster exceptional learning environments.

“We are excited to welcome and collaborate with our talented new colleagues, who will now be part of the Commercial Services Group team.”

Bill Hess, chief executive of Wall Family Enterprise, the parent company of Shrewsbury-based WF Education Group, added: “Commercial Services Group shares our focus on innovative products, as well as outstanding customer service and satisfaction.

“I am confident this deal will benefit our customers and team members, and provide a significant opportunity to grow and thrive.”
