GMP Engineering establishes Yorkshire base

A global process engineering firm has chosen West Yorkshire as the base for its European expansion.

GMP Engineering, a Canadian-owned consultancy serving the life sciences sector, has secured a 1000sq ft office at The Globe, in Slaithwaite.

Bosses of Toronto-headquartered GMP say the site will act as the firm’s European headquarters, “bridging the supply chain” and supporting its role in a $1.3 billion cancer treatment project in North America while developing ties to Europe.

They add that plans are in place to expand the current UK team of four to become a self-sustaining entity of around 15 people over the next five years.

Michael Mellor, process containment – subject matter expert and director leading the UK office at GMP, said: “We are delighted to secure new premises at The Globe.

“With an existing clientele of medical and life sciences-related practices in the building, we are in good company, but the location and connectivity aspect were most appealing.

“Proximity to the M62 corridor, by rail or road, gives us good access to most of our network of vendors in Leeds, Bolton, Liverpool and throughout the UK.

“The Mill building itself is impressive, providing a light and airy workspace of historical importance in the up and coming village of Slaithwaite.”

The Globe, a £6.5 million innovation hub developed by Hartley Property Trust and Kirklees Council, has become a key destination for medical and tech enterprises, with GMP Engineering joining a growing list of tenants.

A spokesperson for Hartley Property Trust added: “We are delighted to announce we have agreed terms for GMP Engineering to occupy the fourth floor at The Globe.

“The Globe buildings are an important part of our history and regional heritage that should be embraced with all their glory for modern day uses.”
