Hull’s East Bank primed for major regeneration
An urban regeneration project has taken a step forward.
Hull City Council has selected ECF, a partnership between Muse, Legal & General and Homes England, as its development partner for East Bank Urban Village.
Officials say the project – which will be backed by £9.875 million of Levelling Up Partnership funding – will create “a dynamic and vibrant new neighbourhood” and will “act as a catalyst for further urban renewal in Hull”.
Based east of the River Hull, opposite the old town, they add the scheme will comprise 850 homes and “transform” a forgotten part of Hull with an interconnected network of streets, plazas and green spaces.
Sir Michael Lyons, ECF chair, said: “East Bank Urban Village is an ambitious plan to deliver a dynamic and vibrant new neighbourhood.
“As development partner, we will work together with Hull City Council to develop and accelerate the vision.
“By bringing our collective skills and experience, ECF will support Hull City Council to address regional priorities, whether through homes, jobs or economic growth.”
The council’s cabinet is now considering acquiring several third-party ownerships to facilitate development, along with essential site enabling works in collaboration with ECF.
East Bank Urban Village is expected to play a key role in meeting the council’s City Plan target of delivering 2500 new homes in the city centre.
Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and housing, added: “I am delighted to see this developer partner agreement with ECF progress.
“East Bank Urban Village will be one of Hull's largest ever regeneration projects and begins the transformation of a long-term derelict site just a stone's throw away from the city centre.
“This new neighbourhood will act as a catalyst for further urban renewal within Hull and help increase investor confidence in the city with all the economic benefits that will arise.”
