Sheffield Forgemasters secures GH Cranes deal
An engineering firm has signed a multi-million-pound contract to equip a planned factory with new lifting apparatus.
Sheffield Forgemasters is working with GH Cranes.
Bosses say the deal will see 11 overhead cranes and a 400-tonne lifting beam installed at Sheffield Forgemasters' planned 35,000sq metre machine shop in Brightside Lane, boosting its defence sector output.
GH Cranes, which beat four global manufacturers to secure the contract, will supply cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 40 to 250 tonnes.
Craig Fisher, Sheffield Forgemasters' programmes director, said: “The tender process was very closely run, but GH Cranes has more than 65 years of experience in the supply of industrial cranes and provided the best technical solutions and the best value for money.”
Aimar Villa Iñurrita, GH Cranes' special solutions business unit director, added: “We are delighted to be supplying cranes for Sheffield Forgemasters’ new machining facility.
“This is a nationally important project, and the cranes will service an advanced facility, which is designed and built for the very best efficiency in manufacture.”
The equipment will be shipped from Spain, with Sheffield-based Professional Lifting Services handling installation from 2026.
